One of the first matches of the twenty-first century to be played at the Carrara Stadium. Matches against WA had been few and far between for most of the twentieth century, but were re-instituted in 1995 when the Western Australians travelled to the Gabba to be pushed all day by an inaccurate home team.
Western Australia 14.14.98 defeated Queensland 8.17.65
In 2002 Queensland finally returned to Perth for the first time since the Division 2 Carnival in 1975. The home team won convincingly.

Western Australia’s Matt Priddis won the Simpson Medal for WA’s best player. in 2006 he went on to win the Sandover Medal and debut for the West Coast Eagles.
